Early in 2019, we were approached by the Usha Kiran Cooperative Housing Society at Carmichael Road to prepare a design pitch for their lobby which needed major renovation from its previous dimly lit Art Deco avatar.
After competing with other design firms, Studio Wodehouse won the mandate to redesign and execute this 3000 sq ft lobby in two phases, keeping in mind an aesthetic that invoked a British Colonial Era nostalgia. The clients were extremely keen to retain existing flooring, bring in more natural light and ventilation, refrain from recessed lighting, and incorporate aesthetics reminiscent of the Gymkhana Clubs in India whilst also keeping the space maintenance-free.
Studio Wodehouse team successfully executed this design project under a strict budget, using stamped concrete, wood, local Malad stone and wrought iron as predominant materials, to create a charming space that the residents are
very proud to call their own.
